It seems there will be a coplay picnic down at Center-Island come Thrusday July 15th, 2004.
More details about the picnic can be found here {information hosted on http://www.lelola.net/ of infamous web-mistress Pan}.
Also please note the following quote from the URL above:
"RSVP:
If you're attending, please RSVP at torontocosplaypicnic@yahoo.ca. If we are looking at a very large number of people, we may need to purchase a group permit.
If you're interested in being a photographer, please mention it in your RSVP.
Please, for the love of god, RSVP! Hope to hear from you soon. ^^ "
It looks to be a grand time of play, that day! :D

Blitzed Cosplay is our new affiliate! Check out the work of Scoti, Chobrat, and Tasu, all very talented cosplayers that attend conventions in the Toronto area and abroad.

There's a new SOTO article in from yours truly, this time dealing with crossplay and the arguments for and against it.
Crossplay – it's a word that evokes several different opinions. Some are for it, some against it, some don't care, and some do it. The problem is, where does the community stand? There are many crossplayers who can convincingly play a character like Sailor Moon, but in the end, it's always going to be a male face to a female outfit. This for many people, is quite jarring. A convention is essentially a carnival, and while the rules may be inverted, decency shouldn't be. I'm not talking about decency on the part of the crossplayers themselves – although that has been an issue with some – but on those expressing their opinions. Read More
Comments are welcome, either through e-mail or the forums.

Boxed Rice Productions has a new affiliate: Lashes Cosplay. Kaitlyn's done some awesome costumes and I'm quite fond of her work. If you were at Anime North, she was dressed as Millia Rage from Guilty Gear X, sans blonde hair. She does quite a few offbeat costumes too, such as the j-pop idol Kana. Give her site a visit!

Minor update: All the pages now have fonts controlled by CSS. I've taken awhile to do this being that the original design was coded in plain HTML (I was loathe to adopt CSS due to the fact not many browsers agreed on what to display at the time). The eradication of about a third of the actual coding should make the pages load a bit faster, which is pleasant for both users and myself (smaller files sizes mean less server costs, after all). Not a big update, but something to note.
In other news, I've posted our first article. This is my own work and I think I'll do one every so often when a subject comes up that I feel requires addressing. Enter our first State of the Otaku (SOTO) article, which addresses the status of cosplay in the present. Just a note: Read the disclaimer on the articles page before complaining about the material.

2001 wasn't a good year for wine, but it was a pretty good year for conventions. Johnny's used the Wayback Machine to fetch his memories from the CNAnime of that year. Well, not really, but he did find his photos! Who knows, you may see yourself in one of his snapshots and think "I remember that!", and then fall down laughing at the random pigeon photo.
I know I did. Minus the seeing myself in his photos bit, because we hadn't met yet. But the pigeon was all there.

It's the 11th and we have our first real affiliate, Cosplay Patchwork, a site run by Becky, a Toronto-area resident cosplayer and rather talented seamstress. Although it stands as a suggestion, I would personally make it a command that her site be viewed and her creations 'ooh'd' and 'aah'd' at. Unless of course, cosplay isn't your thing. Then of course, one would question your presence here, and the absence of a lion threatening to hungrily wolf down your hindquarters unless you browse our site.
Not that such a thing would happen. Certainly not.

Johnny's Anime North 2004 is organised and up in HTML format. Check it out, he took 102 photos! The Saturday page is a bit hefty at 53 pictures, but nothing that can't be handled even on dial-up; It'll just take a little longer.

Wow insomnia hits you when you least expect it. I spent most of the night and morning tweaking the BRP site design. I added a FAQ as to what the RSS/XML buttons up top mean, the Link To/From Us page is up for anyone who wants to affiliate with us, and I've finally made the archives look like the rest of the site. On top of that, there'll be a section for Articles/Reports in the near future. I still have to work out exactly how it's going to look, but rest assured it'll be done soon.
Speaking of things coming up soon, look for BRP at NAF in July. We'll be performing a skit that Wes and Chibi came up with. I'm not sure if I'll be there since I'm taking summer classes, but the rest of the group should be. Cheer for us if you watch and enjoy the show!

The Photo Albums page is open to the public! Although not much is present right now, continue to check back as the situation improves. Some member galleries may merely be directories with photo links, but the idea for now is to have a page where anyone can access photos that BRP members have taken without having to search for links or request them directly. As the situation improves, we'll develop a standard gallery format and thumbnailing scheme.

What with our move from a subfolder to a subdomain of hidoshi.com, I've taken the time to reorganise some things and add a feature or two. These include a random title image (five variations); an RSS feed; updated graphics in several areas; a java-based chatroom which connects to our IRC channel; and an updated Members page. I'll be adding a photo gallery format quite soon as well.
If you have any suggestions for site additions and improvements, drop us a line via the forums!

Well, until further notice, Northern Anime Fest is on track for July 17th 2004, and BRP will be there! Look for us in the Masquerade with a brand new skit written by Chibi and Wes!

Well, we finally moved BRP over to an actual subdomain. There are two reasons behind the move: One, the subdomain is easier to manage because it's not tied directly to hidoshi, com. That means I don't have to worry so much about setting permissions on folders, etc. The second reason is professionalism. Having a subfolder of a site isn't as professional looking as being on a subdomain.
That said, welcome to the new site. Not much has changed yet, but expect some nifty additions in the next week or so.
