Attention BRP and friends, there will be a contest at Anime North on Sunday! Nicknamed "Lazy Sunday Cosplay" the contest theme will be SEMME agents dodging a cameraman who wants to ID them. SEMME agents are a group from the webcomic It's Walky!, and are an organisation devoted to defending the Earth from alien invasion. Bart O'Ryan, a high-priced, shifty-eyed lawyer full of conspiracy theories, aims to uncover SEMME in full. Two people will take turns playing the cameraman in Bart's employ, while everyone else runs around in SEMME shirts.

The rules are as follows:

1. The cameraman will carry a stopwatch and camera at all times.
2. SEMME agents must avoid being photographed face-on for five minutes (or until three exposures have been used).
3. The cameraman may use no more than three exposures per agent.
4. SEMME agents may not use their hands to cover their faces, or spin in circles, etc. Be creative like a real agent.
5. If the cameraman is unsuccessful, he or she must let the SEMME agent go and select a new target. An agent may not be targeted twice in a row.
6. At no time may a SEMME agent attack the cameraman. It's really bad PR.
7. Once an agent has been ID'd, he's out of the game.
8. A cameraman must ID at least 8 agents.
9. At the end of the game, remaining SEMME agents get treated to snacks by yours truly. $15 worth of snacks will be set aside for these individuals.

We're going to try to get at least 12 people in on this, and we'll be using a digital camera so that snapshots can be instantly verified. All the cosplay entails is wearing a SEMME shirt, which will be supplied to players for the duration of the game. The game will begin Sunday morning outside of the dealers area of the convention. Certain places, such as the dealer's area and panels will be off-limits to the game. If you want to attend a panel or shop, please either remove your SEMME shirt temporarily (we advise you bring a replacement article of clothing, obviously), or signal to the cameraman that you're headed for somewhere. Anyone using this tactic to dodge being photographed will be disqualified from the competition.

After the convention, a news story will be placed on the web detailing the event, written from the perspective of the cameraman. Did the SEMME agents manage to escape, or has Bart O'ryan more evidence than ever before that SEMME is an awful, terrible, evil organisation? We shall see.

The game will end around 4:30 in the afternoon, at which time all SEMME agents and cameramen are asked to regroup outside of the dealer's area. If you're interested in participating, drop me or Johnny a line.

Congratulations (however late) to Fred and Sarah (Piro and Seraphim) at Megatokyo on their wedding. The couple was wedded this past New Years and didn't tell anyone until today, so it came as a bit of a surprise. Congrats from the folks at BRP, as many of us are MegaTokyoites and wish you many happy years together.

American Cosplay Paradise is holding a Megatokyo cosplay contest!

Quoted from the ACP website on 13/02/04:

-----

The contest will run until March 1, 2004. We will announce the winners, and have them in a gallery on ACP and Oop-Ack. Prizes include:
-Original Megatokyo sketches, drawn and autographed by Fred
-Megatokyo posters and graphic novels
-Free membership upgrades to ACP, if you're a female cosplayer
-Dom's boxers

-----

More details on the contest can be found here.

It's a shame ACP doesn't have Dom cosplay category for me to enter.
